About the author...

Stevie Loebs is a writer who writes. The seeds of her writing were planted early by her father, who insisted his three children practice their penmanship. That discipline blossomed into a deep love for the art of writing, sparking a lifelong journey of storytelling shaped by her own experiences. From living through the Cold War to navigating today's fast-paced digital age, Stevie’s work reflects the changing world around her.
Her perspective was deeply formed by her early years falling in love with The Beatles and learning to Hate War. Later, as a young bedside nurse, she thought she understood pain. However, it wasn't until she worked with the families of drug addicts and alcoholics that she truly came to understand the depths of suffering, hopelessness, and its impact on a person, a family, and a nation.
Today, Stevie continues to write daily because it is simply who she is. Her stories—ranging from personal essays to works of pure imagination—are meant to record the life, loves, and dreams of a freckle-faced tomboy who once raced down a hill on a blue, two-wheeled bicycle with no hands. Having survived it all, Stevie now shares those stories with you.

Praise for Nelle, An Irish Farmgirl

“Nelle, A woman in St. Louis in the 1920’s, defied the law and the strictures of the Catholic Church to live her life on her own terms.  Riveting! Inspiring!”

Evelyn Edson

Professor Emeritus, cartographer, historian

“It is rare that people actually refuse to accept something they find unacceptable, but that’s exactly what Nelle did—and in doing so, found her true path and happy ending.  Nelle discovered self-care a hundred years before the rest of us.  Her Legacy of bravery and determination has been lovingly preserved by the author, whose deep appreciation for both Nelle and her story shines through.”

Kelly Kroese

Librarian, information technology technician

“What a profound story of love, loss, and the unwavering integrity of a woman ahead of her time!  The author invites us into the living room of her mother’s childhood and into the heart of her grandmother, Nelle.  Set against the backdrop of the Catholic Church in the early 20th century, the story explores the timeless themes of inequality, addiction, infidelity, and domestic violence.  The reader is at once rooting for Nelle and her daughters and against the disruption of norms designed to keep women subordinate and powerless.  As the pages turn quickly, we find ourselves longing for Nelle to open her heart to the true love she deserves.  The Author has delivered a beautifully written and triumphant story that is sure to entertain, enlighten, and inspire!”

Nicki Rhode Peasley

Educator, writer, author of Elipsis

“This story captivated me from the very beginning.  Nelle’s story is amazing and absolutely needs to be shared with the world.  She is an extremely strong character and never stops fighting; she ever gives in to what everyone tells her or compromises her boundaries.”
